The traditional leather industry is polluting and very energy intensive. Raw skins, often imported from distant countries, have to undergo numerous, lengthy processing operations before reaching the stage of tanned skins, intended for use.
The surplus of downgraded skins is crushed and then agglomerated to become low-end reconstituted or synthetic leather (called "recycled leather") - a process that wastes as much material as energy for a low quality result.
Globally, no less than 800,000 tonnes of leather waste is produced each year.
Upcycling: environmentally friendly leather
Having made this alarming finding and convinced that another world was possible, we sought to make improvements and find solutions to reinvent our passion.
The idea of "upcycling" was the answer! The principle is simple: offering a second life to the existing leather stock, by minimizing processing, limiting the consumption of resources (raw materials, water, energy, etc.) and the production of waste as much as possible. The objective is the creation of quality products by upgrading downgraded skins. We improve appearance and texture using innovative and energy-efficient techniques.
Upcycling is upgraded recycling through the recovery of unused materials to promote circular economy. Our upcycled items are high grade skins.
